Free Mobile Phone Service

I had a friend that recently told me she signed up for free mobile phone service.  I was very curious to find out what exactly this service was and how I could also sign up for it.  I searched online and found some information.  The free mobile phone service is a government program that allows people who are basically poor to get a free phone with free minutes.  This is just like other federal assistance programs like the food stamp program where people get free food but instead they get a free phone.  The reason the government is funding a free phone service is because cell phones have been a necessity in this society.  You won’t find anyone without a cell phone.  Cell phones are really useful because you can make emergency calls anywhere.  But other reasons cell phones are needed is because you have to use it to do business or get a job.  Without a cell phone, prospective employers have no chance of contacting you for an interview.  As a person with limited financial means, getting a higher paid job would probably be high on the to-do list. 

If you are already getting other government benefits, then you can easily get free mobile phone service as well.  Just send the document that shows you are already getting the other benefits.  Otherwise, you’ll have to send documents that show your income, which is the basis for determining whether you get free phone service.  You also have to show these income documents every year if you plan on continuing to get free phone service.  Each household is allowed one free phone.  If you wanted to get your spouse or kids a phone, then you’ll have to pay for it.  You are also allowed about sixty minutes of free airtime.  This should be enough to cover emergency calls for a month.  Make sure you use that wisely.  If you really must, you can buy extra minutes too.  But just remember that it will cost money. 

Free mobile phone service is a great thing for those people that can barely make ends meet.  It allows them to keep in contact with the world and call for help when needed.
