Free Home Phone Service

Many poor people are finding it hard to keep up with bills.  There are so many expenses that people have to pay like the water, electric, and possibly gas bill.  After all these bills are paid, there might not be any money left over for other necessary services like phone service.  Yet, having phone service can be equally as important as the other services.  For example, without a phone, how would you make a call for 911?  If people needed to get in contact with you, how would they do so?  As you can see, having a phone is very important in our society. 

Because of its importance the government helps by making free home phone service available to the needy.  Usually these types of programs allows for the customer to get the first month free and then a discount on subsequent months for their phone service.  Services would also include call waiting, caller ID, and long distance. 

In order to get the first month of free home phone service you have to be one of two things.  You can get home phone service if you are already on other approved government assistance.  Some of these approved government assistance programs include food stamps, Medicaid, and SSI.  There are other programs you can use since each state has different assistance programs.

The other way to get free home phone service is if you have a household income at or below 135% of the poverty guidelines set by the government.  You would have to show your previous year’s tax return, W2, or pay stubs in order for your income to be verified. 

Free home phone service is great for families that are financially strapped.  It would be very hard to live without phone service.  So if you have to get phone service, then why not pay the least possible?  It would only make sense to do so.
